NHS personal care 'must improve'
Personal care needs to improve dramatically before the healthcare service becomes 'world class', according to the government's health watchdog.
Sir Ian Kennedy, chairperson of the Healthcare Commission. said: 'Most organisations offer patients a good overall experience, but some lag behind.
'We need more attention on ensuring that patients get personalised care and fair access to services.'
The Healthcare Commission’s report on the State of Healthcare provided six recommendations to improve services, including closer attention to patients’ needs and promoting a safe environment.
Sir Kennedy said that despite obvious improvements in the last year, care 'is not as good as it should be'.
