They examined levels of stress and job burnout among 236 social workers in New York following the 11 September terrorist attacks.
‘Listening to a person’s traumatic experiences can be a very difficult experience for a clinician,’ said the authors in the journal Research on Social Work Practice.
‘Sometimes caregivers need emotional support of their own and if they don’t get it, they can become emotionally ill.’
