Nurses to lead in Wales overhaul
Health minister for Wales Edwina Hart intends to replace 22 local health boards and seven NHS trusts with seven new NHS organisations. The final proposals for this were published last week.
Tina Donnelly, RCN Wales director, said: ‘We welcome the change that will improve outcomes for patients but the devil is in the detail. We have assurances from the health minister there will be nurse leadership at every level.’
She added that the college would fight any potential senior nurse redundancies resulting from there being fewer NHS bodies.
‘I intend to work to ensure there is, I do not want to see nurses being made redundant at that level,’ she said.

In a reshuffle in 1996 I was a senior nurse and was made redundant. This is why I am in Australia. I am glad there are safeguards this time round. There is nothing more demoralising than the realisation that one's skills are not recognised any more. Good luck everyone!
