Nurses win funding for sexual health projects
Ten nurses will be able to implement pioneering projects in sexual health after being awarded £500 bursaries.
Projects include a sexual health travel advice website for holidaymakers, a drop-in centre for young men and weekly sexual health clinics at a further education college.
Kate Howie, chairperson of the RCN practice nurse forum, was a member of a judging panel for the bursaries, which were provided by contraceptive manufacturer Durex.
'I'd like to congratulate all the winners of these bursaries and commend them for their desire to improve sexual health in their area,' she said.
'Sexual health is a topic that's high on the government's agenda and practice nurses are in the frontline of delivering holistic healthcare - which includes sexual health services,' she added.
Charles Shepherd, head of health promotion for Durex, said: 'Nurses often lead the way in making healthcare accessible to their patients and talk about a wide range of health topics.'
