Aftermath
Poem submitted by Simon McKeown
My dreams that ruin my sleep
Are memories in the day.
Anxiety grows with each minute
Gained on my alarm clock.
Today is the day.
Time, my time,
Will zoom along today.
Before too long, the walk I walk
Will seem like forty seconds
Instead of as many minutes.
Today.
This day
Of facing,
Of debriefing,
Of reality bite and deep-felt sorrow.
This day I start with a hard-bop tuba
Zooming along.
