Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSEnd-of-life care service extended across Lincolnshire
A Marie Curie Cancer Care rapid response pilot scheme has been expanded to cover the whole of Lincolnshire.
The out-of-hours service, piloted in the Boston and South Holland areas, carries out planned and urgent trips to the homes of people with cancer and other terminal illnesses to offer expert care. The team also provides advice over the telephone.
As well as potentially allowing more patients to die in their own homes, the expansion of the service has created 17 new nursing, HCA and administration jobs.
Rapid response service manager Louise Price said: “We are absolutely delighted that Marie Curie’s rapid response service has been commissioned across the county. It means we will be able to provide a fantastic level of care and support to many more terminally ill patients and their families in Lincolnshire.
“The expanded rapid response service will help the charity achieve its aim of doubling the number of people able to choose to be cared for and die at home, surrounded by their loved ones,” she added.
