Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSHPV vaccination gets off to good start in England
The HPV vaccination programme has got off to a successful start in England, latest figures suggest.
Seventy per cent of eligible 12 to 13-year-old girls in England were fully immunised against HPV during 2008-09, according to a report from the NHS Information Centre.
While 70 per cent of girls in school year eight received all three doses of the vaccine, just over 87 per cent in total received one dose, according to the statistics.
Uptake of the MMR vaccine for children reaching their second birthday remained at around 85 per cent for the third year running.
This is still lower than in the mid 1990s – prior to the bad publicity over the jab – when just over 90 percent of children received the MMR vaccine.
