The Royal College of Nursing in Wales has closed its ‘get It right’ campaign after three years.

The campaign, launched in September 2007, highlighted 10 issues that it wanted the Welsh Assembly to address, which were gradually expanded to 30. Each issue was presented in a briefing paper, setting out possible solutions.
Themes included improving the skills of nursing staff and ensuring enough nurses were employed to provide safe and dignified care.
Successes included the introduction of a national school nurse strategy and the Free to Lead Free to Care ward sister initiative, but the RCN said more work was needed on improvements for community and mental health nurses.
Tina Donnelly, director of the RCN in Wales, said: “We are very proud of the get it right campaign and how it has improved patient care in the past three years. However, is important that the government focuses on implementing the community nursing strategy over the next year.”
