The MyAction programme, which celebrates its one year anniversary this week, has helped individuals and families across the borough to quit smoking, lose weight and eat more healthily in a bid to support local people to change their lifestyles.
Run by Imperial College Healthcare and NHS Westminster, MyAction is open to Westminster residents who have a cardiovascular condition or a one in five chance of developing one.
Following a referral from their GP or the Trust to the MyAction programme, patients are offered a one-to-one assessment by nurses and dieticians. The team assess the patient’s lifestyle in terms of diet, physical activity and other risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol. The team then work to develop a tailored programme to help them achieve healthy lifestyle change. These include supervised exercise classes, workshops on healthy eating, diabetes and smoking cessation.
Tracie Hughes, manager at the MyAction St John’s Wood centre, said: “We are proud to celebrate this important milestone for MyAction. Prevention is key to improving the nation’s health. By identifying risks, and developing a tailored programme for health improvement, we are striving to help individuals embrace healthier lives.”
