Tooth decay is early warning for high GI diet
The possibility that a person is eating too much high-glycaemic (high GI) carbohydrate may first become evident by tooth decay and gum disease, according to an expert.
High GI foods affect blood-sugar levels and may increase the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases, says Professor Philippe Hujoel, a researcher at the University of Washington.
A high GI diet has been linked to poor blood sugar control and an increased risk of diabetes, liver disease, and also increase sugar levels in the mouth, leading to dental problems.
It is also thought that abnormal blood sugar might play a role in disorders including Alzheimer’s and pancreatic cancer.
