Prime Minister's commission to be chaired by Ann Keen

Commission Members

• Chair Ann Keen, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health

• Dame Christine Beasley, Chief Nursing Officer, Department of Health

• Professor Anne-Marie Rafferty, dean/head of the Florence Nightingale School for Nursing and Midwifery, King’s College London, who worked on reforming the US nursing role under President Clinton

• Tamar Thompson, director of strategic partnerships at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement

• Heather Lawrence, chief executive of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, who has management experience across all sectors of healthcare

• Peter Carter, General Secretary, Royal College of Nursing

• Cathy Warwick, General Secretary, Royal College of Midwives

• Gail Adams, Head of Nursing, Unison

• Jo Pritchard, joint managing director of Central Surrey Health, a pioneering nurse-led social enterprise scheme

• Dame Donna Kinnair, director of nursing at Southwark PCT, who was an adviser to Lord Laming throughout his inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbié.

Former nurse and health minister Ms Keen has been chosen to lead the commission because of the perceived success of the development of the NHS Next Stage Review by health minister and surgeon Lord Ara Darzi. As well as the main commission, the commission will benefit from an expert advisory panel including eminent figures such as Baroness Audrey Emerton, and internationally renowned nurse researcher Professor Linda Aiken, from Pennsylvania University.
