Comic-style childhood soiling booklet highly commended
A booklet about childhood soiling problems, produced by the charity ERIC, has been high commended at the British Medical Association (BMA) patient information awards.
Sam’s Story, a comic-style booklet written specially for children facing difficulties caused by constipation and soiling was short-listed from over 300 entries.
Produced with funding from the Big Lottery as part of ERIC’s Outreach Project, the booklet is designed for six to ten year olds and is written from a child’s perspective featuring bright and colourful cartoons. The story follows Sam, aged eight, who suffers with soiling problems and his journey through assessment, treatment and resolution of the problem.
Jenny Perez, Director at ERIC said; “Sam’s Story focuses on a topic not widely talked about and children often feel too embarrassed to confront the problem. We have received great feedback from children, parents and health professionals about Sam’s Story and we hope the leaflet will continue to promote awareness of this important issue.’
