A Meningitis C vaccine withdrawn in February over contamination fears posed no risk to health, according to health minister Dawn Primarolo.
It has now been confirmed as sterile after tests conducted by manufacturer Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, she said in a written ministerial statement.
She said that while it had been best practice to withdraw the vaccine as a precaution, the tests “confirm that the vaccine used in the UK was not contaminated”.
She said: ‘The UK has a successful immunisation programme that protects children from serious disease. Parents should continue to have confidence in getting their children vaccinated against serious illnesses.’
