MRSA-killing curtain wins innovation award
A special type of curtain that kills MRSA and helps nurses with infection control has received a major award for innovation.
The product, developed by Disposable Cubicle Curtains Ltd – a small company based in West Sussex – has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Innovation.
The unique disposable curtain has a residual biocide that kills bacteria on contact, minimising the spread of infections like MRSA.
The curtain takes less than 60 seconds to fit, compared with up to 20 minutes for traditional curtains, according to its manufacturer – saving healthcare staff valuable time.
The product is currently in use in GP surgeries, health centres and over 200 hospitals – both private and NHS – including Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup.
DCCL chairman Peter Gardner said: ‘Infection control is such a high priority in all healthcare environments and we are proud to be playing such an important part in the fight against it.’

At long last a new innovation for bedside curtains which are subject to touch by so many different healthcare professionals and splashed by so many different types of fluids over time. I look forward to hearing more news about their effectiveness.
