Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSScotland gets new guidance on hospital cleaning
Revised cleaning standards for Scottish hospitals were announced this week in a latest attempt to crack down on healthcare-associated infections.
The new National Cleaning Specification, which all hospitals in Scotland will have to adopt, have been developed by Health Facilities Scotland.
Key parts of the specification include guidance on the use of steam cleaners, further awareness of the importance of health and safety and hand hygiene, and a colour-coding system to ensure specific clothes are used for specific areas.
The standards were announced by Mags McGuire, acting chief nursing officer for Scotland.
Scottish health secretary Nicola Sturgeon added: ‘Tacking hospital infections is my top priority. There is no single solution to this complex problem, but good cleaning has a key part to play and must continue to be a high priority for all NHS boards.’
