Baby charity encourages donors to give blood for sick and premature babies
Baby charity Bliss have teamed up with the National Blood Service to encourage donors to give blood for sick and premature babies.
The National Blood Service has produced a poster campaign to raise awareness of the importance of life saving blood donations for sick babies.
Bliss, which provides support for families of special care babies, will distribute the posters to neonatal units.
The charity hopes the campaign will encourage more people to become blood or platelet donors.
Every year 82,000 sick and premature babies who need specialist hospital care are born in the UK.
Bliss chief executive, Andy Cole, said: ‘Premature and sick babies often need blood or platelets which can be vital for their survival.
‘We hope this campaign will encourage more people to donate their blood.’
