'Madwives' set for charity boat race
A team of 20 midwives from Rotherham hospital are preparing to take part in a charity dragon boat race in order to raise funds for charity.
Midwife Lisa Farrow-Browne organised the team for the annual Dragon Boat Race at Rother Valley Country Park on July 18.
Known as the ‘Mad Wives’, the team aims to raise money for the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and the maternity unit at Rotherham General Hospital.
To take part in the race, customarily completed in fancy dress with banging drums, the midwives need to raise £750.
‘We’re appealing for a local business to sponsor our entry and then we can go on to try and raise even more money,’ says Ms Farrow-Browne.
She added: ‘If we raise enough, we might be able to buy some lovely pictures for our new water birth room at the hospital.’
A crowd of 3000 is expected at the dragon boat race, organised by Western Park Hospital.
Businesses or individuals willing to support Lisa and her team should contact Jane Whitham, Interim PR and Communications Manager for the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust on 01709 307563 or jane-whitham@rothgen.nhs.uk.
