NHS Greenwich launches first UK breastfeeding tent
NHS Greenwich has launched the first UK breastfeeding tent, offering mothers a comfortable place to breastfeed their babies at outside events.
The ‘Baby Café events tent’ will give mums a private area at festivals and fairs to breastfeed their babies, with specialist staff giving advice and support around breastfeeding.
There are already 132 active Baby Café branded breastfeeding drop ins across the country, but NHS Greenwich is the first trust in the UK to use the Baby Café licence to provide their service outdoors.
Donah Francis, Greenwich Breastfeeding Strategy Co-ordinator said: ‘The Baby Café events tent is designed to make it easier for mums of all walks of life, ethnicities and experience, to breastfeed their baby on a family day out.’
Chief executive of NHS Greenwich, Jane Schofield, added: ‘The launch of this breastfeeding tent is a great illustration of NHS Greenwich working together with our local partners, including the Council, University and Community Health Services, to meet the needs of our area’s population.’
