Wound care nurses celebrate award success
Mölnlycke Health Care presented nurses with Wound Academy Scholarships and Awards at a recent event at the House of Commons.
Gillian Hiskett, lead tissue viability nurse at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, won the experience practitioner category. She received a scholarship to continue her work to reduce pressure ulcers among hospital patients.
Esther Monet, a junior sister at the Royal Free Hospital in London, walked away with the Novice Practitioner Scholarship. She is working on a project to develop an effective communication process, by creating links between different hospital departments, to improve care for patients.
The team award was shared by two groups. The wound management team at Southend Foundation Hospitals NHS Trust was rewarded for successfully establishing an effective vascular and tissue viability service, for patients in both acute and the community.
The other team award went to the pressure ulcer prevention and intervention service at Morriston Hospital in Swansea. This team were awarded for its success in preventing pressure ulcer development in ‘at-risk’ patients, through the education and training of staff, patients and carers.
