Staff charged £15 a day for hospital car parking

Nurses at Addenbrooke’s Hospital are being forced to pay up to £15 a day to park their cars within hospital grounds, after Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust increased car-parking charges by 30%.

Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show that the trust has raked in £922,068 in six months from staff, patients and visitors since it increased fees in April.

A trust spokesperson said fees covered running costs and was not profit. ‘If we didn’t charge, that money it would have to come out of our clinical care budget,’ he said.
