A critically ill man in a Glasgow hospital has tested positive for swine flu and his wife and three children are being treated as probable cases.
The 37-year-old man is in intensive care in Glasgow Victoria Royal Infirmary and has underlying health problems as well as H1N1 swine flu.
The children were not at school when they became ill and their schools are remaining open because of this.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: ‘While this is clearly a difficult time for the family concerned, I would like to reassure people that the risk to the general public remains low.
‘However, it’s important that we remain vigilant. Robust risk assessments have been undertaken with regard to both schools involved and the decision has been taken that the schools will remain open. The situation is being kept under close review.’
