Over 100 swine flu cases confirmed in one day
More than 100 new swine flu cases have been confirmed in Scotland, taking the total in the country to 850.
The vast majority of the new cases have been found in Glasgow and surrounding areas, with just three out of the 111 cases related to foreign travel.
Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said the big increase in swine flu cases was partly related to a high volume of laboratory testing carried out over the past few days, but she said an increase in cases in Scotland had been expected.
‘While the focus in the early stages of the outbreak has been primarily on containment, we are now moving to a point where we are now seeing increased community transmissions. We’re now looking ahead to a situation where local health boards will proceed on a flexible basis according to the situation in their specific board areas.’
There are currently four people in Scotland being treated for swine flu.
