The number of new swine flu cases in England has almost doubled in the past week.
The latest estimated figures from the Health Protection Agency suggest that there were 9,000 new cases of swine flu in England last week, a rise of 4,000 from the previous week. The week before that the figure was about 3,000.
Sir Liam Donaldson, the government’s chief medical officer, said “Everything suggests we are seeing the start of the second peak, but we just don’t know how big that will be.”
The increase in cases across the rest of the UK has been much smaller.
