Scottish health secretary praises NHS staff for efforts against swine flu

NHS staff in Scotland have been praised for the efforts fighting the swine flu virus that has now infected at least four people in the country.

According to the Scottish Government, there is one further probable case and 19 other suspected cases under investigation.

The Scottish health secretary, Nicola Sturgeon paid tribute to the efforts of staff while visiting NHS Forth Valley, where the first two cases were treated.

Ms Sturgeon said: ‘We are dealing with a fast-moving situation and I’d like to thank the staff - both here at Forth Valley and throughout the NHS - for their tireless efforts.

‘The quick thinking of staff at NHS Forth Valley helped us to respond quickly to the initial cases to minimise the spread of infection.

‘And I’d like to reassure the public that - though the risk to public health remains low - the NHS is well prepared to deal with any eventuality.’
