The incidence of swine flu is slowing, according to latest government figures.
Latest figures show 100,000 cases reported in England, a fall from the previous figure of 110,000. GP consultation rates have also fallen from 155 per 100,000 to 138 per 100,000.
However chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson warned that the disease could return with a vengeance later in the year.
He said: ‘I think we are probably seeing a downturn in the illness at the moment but we don’t anticipate it staying away,’ he said. ‘We expect to see a big surge in autumn.’
