Unions and NHS Employers pledge to improve KSF
NHS Employers and unions have pledged to improve the (KSF) Knowledge and Skills Framework after a National Audit Office report criticised the NHS for failing to realise its benefits.
The report, published last week, noted that the KSF career development framework has not yet been fully implemented, five years after it was first launched in Agenda for Change.
Edward Leigh, chairman of the Commons Public Accounts Committee, which works closely with the NAO, said: ‘Patients are not seeing the significant benefits that could be delivered by the framework.’
The social partnership forum, a coalition of NHS unions, the government and managers, discussed improving the KSF at a meeting last week.
Geoff Winnard, head of Agenda for Change at NHS Employers, said: ‘Cultural change is difficult in some areas and some managers and some local staff have not given this the priority it needs.’
Josie Irwin, RCN head of employment relations, added: ‘We need to look at the criticisms that are being made so that managers can’t make excuses for not putting the KSF into place.’

Simplify it. Shorten it. Take out the jargon. Provide training on implementation and uptake/engagement may improve.
