The effectiveness of bath emollients in the treatment of eczema should be assessed, according to experts.
In an article they questioned the prescription of bath emollients on the NHS, saying they may not be worth paying for.
The most expensive emollients cost up to 75p per bath, the article said, and there is little trial evidence to support their efficacy.
The authors said: 'Given that bath emollients are expensive and the NHS spends a considerable sum on them, we believe that their use requires proper evaluation.'
