Whistle-blowing midwife suspended
A whistle-blowing midwife who spoke out last week about the decision by Newham social services not to tell foster carers that a baby taken into their care could be HIV positive has been suspended from work by Newham University hospital trust.
Midwife Tricia McDaid had questioned why social workers in Newham had not told a foster mother who was given a new born baby to care for that the infant could be HIV positive.
Nursing Times has learnt that Ms McDaid was suspended by the trust last Friday (27 February 2009).
A spokeswoman for Unison, which is representing Ms McDaid, said: ‘We are aware that Ms McDaid has been suspended after having been called to an informal meeting with the trust, she has not been told why and we will be contacting the trust to find out what the situation is.’
A spokesman for the trust told Nursing Times that the organisation would not comment on individual cases.
However, in a statement the trust said: ‘In some circumstances, we may move a member of staff to an alternative work area, or suspend the individual while an investigation takes place.
‘Making a change in the responsibilities of a member of staff or suspending them in such circumstances is never a punitive measure, and cannot be seen as a comment on their work or as an indication of the possible outcome of the investigation.’

Mmmmmmmm.........Another sad story from a victim! What can we say?????? Everyone in this country has the right to freedom of speech and the right to information which is written in our Constitution.........So.....another failure!!!!
Another broken heart...How many heart need to break before we realize our mistakes and before we open our eyes!
WE DONT PUNISH PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY DO THE RIGHT THING....Why this problems keep on going as if it is endless.......but never find a solution even once!
We need self-analyzation and evaluation to understand ourselves and the grace from God.......God bless.
