Unique pelvic cushion wins nurse inventor success

Thirty years of experience has helped a Norfolk nurse develop a unique pelvic cushion to improve patient care.

The Danrik Wedge was devised by Lynne Phillippo, a nurse practitioner at the Cromer Group Practice, to help take the trauma out of cervical smear tests. The device is designed to tilt the pelvis, making it both easier and quicker for nurses to carry out procedures while reducing patient discomfort.

Anne Blackwood, head of innovation at the hub, said: 'It is a perfect example of a simple but effective idea that really improves the patient experience, devised by a nurse practitioner who understands the problems and what can help.'

The cushion was developed with help from Health Enterprise East, the NHS innovation hub for the East of England. Details of the product are available at www.charnwoodhealthcare.com
