A nurse-led team from Leeds has been awarded £10,000 to develop a DVD on chronic pain management for their patients.
The group identified a need for further information for those suffering from neuropathic pain after carrying out a study showing that patients often did not fully understand the term.
As a result, they want to produce a DVD including information about the causes of pain, treatment options available, self- management techniques and the appropriate usage of pain relief.
The project will reinforce the information patients receive from a practice nurse or GP, and encourage them to gain a deeper understanding of their pain and its treatments, said the team, which includes members from Leeds PCT, Leeds Metropolitan University, St Gemma's Hospice, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
They received the funding for winning first place in the Napp Achievement in Pain Practice Award, a national wards programme supported by Napp Pharmaceuticals. More information on the DVD is available from www.leeds.ac.uk/pallium
