Nurses have developed a new tool to support staff that care for children with complex health needs.
The Coventry and Warwickshire Competency System is a teaching and assessment tool aimed at support workers and junior nurses looking after children with such needs.
Backed by chief nursing officer for England Dame Christine Beasley, it was developed by nurses working for Coventry and Warwickshire PCTs – principally by consultant nurse David Widdas and clinical educator Liz Herd.
The tool works at a holistic level, using psychological and child-focused elements, and includes PowerPoint slides, teaching notes, handouts, workbook, model answers and a competency document. It is to be available for free download at www.act.org.uk
