Renal nurses who helped achieve a 40% reduction in patient bed days are among the winners of this year's Health and Social Care Awards.
The NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Department of Health announced the award winners at a ceremony in London last week.
Derby City Hospital's Renal Services Team, winners of the Safety in Care Award, also reduced use of antibiotics by 90%, releasing nursing time for patient education.
Other winners include the Royal Bolton Hospital, where nurses played a key role in using Lean Thinking techniques – created by Toyota – to reduce mortality rates, length of stay, post-operative complications and delayed discharges.
The winners had faced regional competition before being named as finalists in each of the 14 categories. Click here for more information on the winners.
