6Cs week of action: protecting health

Viv Bennett invites you to join the 6Cs week of action, focussing on protecting health

Viv Bennett

Protecting and improving health is a real challenge for 2014.

We need to maximise the nursing contribution to this area, to think about how we offer personalised care to improve health outcomes and how we reduce care inequalities, and the actions we need to take.

We need to raise the profile of this work with others, with our patients, their families and communities, and with managers and commissioners.

In an increasingly digital world we need to think about how we use new technology to support better care, for professional CPD and to support social movement for health and wellbeing.

In October we ran a week of action with 6Cs Live, bringing together the 6Cs and 6 domains for “improving the public’s health”:  wider determinants of health, health improvement, health protection, healthcare public health, supporting independence and life course: early years.

We used a variety of social media formats to connect with nurses and midwives and others, as well as using online journals, webinars and front line visits.

We had 1,300 views of blogs nearly 1,800 tweets including an excellent online discussion. We want to do more and ask you to consider how digital media might help you to access information and to share ideas developing about our roles in health.

At the end of February we will have another week of action focusing on our roles in protecting health. We will look at immunisation, antimicrobial resistance, TB, infection control and also protecting mental health.

All nurses will have an interest in one or more of these and we hope that you will join in the week and perhaps use it to try out some new digital ways of connecting. During this week you can engage by visiting my blog page by following me on twitter @VivJBennett.
