A new fungal infection treatment has been launched in the UK by Pfizer.

Anidulafungin (Ecalta), a new member of the echinocandin class of anti-fungal medicines, has been licensed for the treatment of invasive candidiasis in adult non-neutropenic patients.

Trial data demonstrated the drug was successful in 75.6% of patients with serious Candida infections, compared with 60.2% given fluconazole.
