Asthma guide recalled over error

Nurses working with asthma patients have been sent a guide with a major prescribing error in it.

Nurses working with asthma patients have been sent a guide with a major prescribing error in it.

The charity Asthma UK has recalled its Emergency Asthma Care Pack due to the mistake, which it warns could potentially lead to patients being given a dangerously high drug dose.

The error appears on page 14, table five. The dose IV Salbutamol should read 250 micrograms not 250 milligrams as stated.

Asthma UK said it was Â'very concerned that this mistake slipped throughÂ' its usually Â'rigorousÂ' clinical and editorial approval process. IT has launched a review of the process, as a result.

The charity said an amended version of the guide, in hard copy and CD-ROM, would be available in due course.
