Botox approved for treating brain conditions

  • Comment
A product incorporating botulinum toxin has been approved for the treatment of two neurological disorders in Scotland.

The Scottish Medicines Consortium has accepted clostridium botulinum neurotoxin type A (Xeomin) for the symptomatic management of blepharospasm, a brain disorder that affects muscles and movements in the eye.

It has also been approved for treating cervical dystonia of a predominantly rotational form (spasmodic torticollis) in adults – a brain disorder that affects muscles and movements in the neck.
