Despite the heavy snow affecting the country this week, the boyband JLS took time out to visit young patients and nursing staff at Basildon Hospital.
The band, which recently appeared in the final of the X Factor, fought their way down to Essex from Middlesbrough through blizzard conditions on Monday.
Aston, Marvin, JB and Oritse were greeted with a warm welcome from patients and staff on Basildon University Hospital’s three children’s wards - Wagtail, Puffin and Penguin. As well as signing autographs and chatting to each patient the group treated patients to a burst of their song ‘If I ever’.
Liza Griffiths, a staff nurse on Wagtail Ward, said: ‘The looks on the patients’ faces as JLS walked through the door was priceless. All the staff commented on how nice it was that they took the time to talk to each patient and they seemed genuinely interested in finding out about them.
‘The patients’ morale has been boosted and everyone is still talking about it,’ she added.
The band later performed at JJ’s at Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park.
