Broccoli blocks Crohn's disease

  • Comment

Eating broccoli and plantain could help to block a key stage in the development of Crohn’s disease, researchers have found.

The research team, from Liverpool University, found that fibres in the two foodstuffs helped to prevent invasion of the cells lining the bowel by bacteria.

Other fruit and vegetables, including leeks and apples, were tested, but they had no effect on the translocation of the bacteria, which causes diarrhoea.
