Lung cancer experts have called on the government to pilot a UK screening programme.

Screening is one of 12 recommendations made by the UK Lung Cancer Coalition last week in the first national plan to improve UK lung cancer survival rates, which are the worst in Europe.

Sue Cowdy, Macmillan lung cancer nurse specialist at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, said: ‘Patients with lung cancer often present late. If we screened them we could pick them up much earlier.’
