Cancer drug gets 'restricted' green light in Scotland

The cancer drug docetaxel (Taxotere) has been given the go-ahead this month for restricted use in Scotland by the Scottish Medicines Consortium.

It is accepted for the induction treatment of patients with resectable locally-advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck in combination with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil. But it is restricted to patients in whom induction chemotherapy is deemed appropriate, the SMC ruled.
