Care home provider issues profit warning

  • Comment
The care home specialist Southern Cross Healthcare has put a hold on recruiting new nursing staff after the company announced that it would not hit its expected profit target this year.

It blamed delays in local authority funding and ‘higher than normal attrition rates of nursing residents’, which meant its homes were not currently operating at full capacity.

A spokeswoman for the company said ‘patients were not coming into the care homes as quickly as expected’, although she insisted that the business would not be making any nursing staff redundant. ‘The underlying business continues to operate normally and we are looking to increase occupancy,’ she said.

The company also warned that its Active Care arm, which provides residential and nursing care for people with mental health issues, had failed to perform well this year.
