Bristol saw us launch our new style of career-development events for nurses last month and in June, we are bringing this to Leeds and London.
The event had it all – This Girl Can enthusing nurses to get involved in physical activities for their mental and physical wellbeing (and many did in our lunchtime Zumba session), fabulous speakers, lots of freebies, including some handcream from Yes! Nurse, Kettle Chips, Jelly Beans and Vita Coco water and oil.

New features in Bristol in March included our drop-in Learning Zone, powered by Nursing Times Learning. Our clinical editors will be on hand again in Leeds to give you advice on how to meet your CPD hours for revalidation or to develop your portfolio of skills – using our cost-effective Nursing Times subscription. They’ll also show you how to set up a virtual or face-to-face journal club to help you and your nursing colleagues reflect on your practice, and use the articles to deepen your understanding of the issues in the clinical environment.
Chief executive of NHS Employers Danny Mortimer gave us some great insights into how to present yourself well at interview and in a job application, and this session will be reprised in Leeds and London later this month by his colleagues.
Jackie Smith, chief executive of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, will bring to life our Nursing Times feature You Are the Panel at both Leeds and London. We’ll discuss real-life cases that were referred to the NMC’s Fitness to Practise panel, and you will get a chance to decide what you think the panel should have decided was the appropriate cause of action. It will give you a chance to reflect on the NMC’s Code, and think about what it means to be a professional on the register.
At the end of both days, we’ll wrap the whole thing up with a free vintage tea party to celebrate the NHS’s 70th birthday. So perfect your victory rolls and draw lines down the back of your stockings ready for a 1940s-themed tea party with plenty of bunting and gingham.
On top of all this, we’ll have plenty of recruiters keen to talk to you about what it’s like to work in their organisation.
