Carter calls for obesity specialists

  • Comment
RCN general secretary Peter Carter has called for teams of specialist nurses to combat obesity in children.

Mr Carter said the nurses should screen school-age children who are at risk of becoming overweight and developing conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

The nurses should visit schools once a year, he said.

‘Everyone knows the impact of obesity but you need people out there working it through. If every child underwent routine screening it would alert parents that “you have a problem”,’ he added.
