An acute children’s service that faced closure until NT threatened to expose its demise has been downgraded, nurses have revealed (NT News, 13 November, p3).

Children’s Hospital at Home in Rugby, run by Warwickshire PCT, has been reduced from a 24-hour service to one that runs 9am–5pm on weekdays only.

Margaret Simmons, a nurse who retired from the service this year, said: ‘Children who are acutely ill need close monitoring. It is not safe if you can’t offer a 24/7 service, which is what ours was. We were always at the end of the phone for the parents.’

No one from Warwickshire PCT was available for comment.
