A quarter of patients attending accident and emergency for deliberate self-harm are likely to repeat harm within 12 months, according to a Swedish study.

Researchers from Södersjukhuset, a large hospital in Stockholm, tracked 1,524 patients who attended A&E after deliberate self-harm.

“The cumulative incidence for patients repeating deliberate self harm within 12 months after the index episode was 26.8%,” the authors said.
