Breast cancer therapies have different side effects

  • Comment

Two common options for adjuvant breast cancer therapy give similar survival rates but have different side effects, Dutch researchers said online in The Lancet.

The study of 9,779 women compared sequential treatment with tamoxifen followed by emexestane, and emexestance alone.

Sequential treatment was linked with higher incidence of gynaecological symptoms, venous thrombosis, and endometrial abnormalities/thickening than exemestane alone.

Musculoskeletal adverse events, hypertension, and abnormal blood fats were reported more frequently with exemestane alone.
