Welcome to the first in a series of Excellence in Oncology Nursing videos, brought to you in association with Novartis Oncology.

We are delighted to be working with the team at Novartis Oncology to profile best practice in this important area of nursing. These videos will highlight how nurses can improve the patient experience and outcomes.

The first of these videos is introduced by Sue Morgan, nurse consultant from the Teenage & Young Adult Cancer Unit at Leeds General Hospital.

What is fabulous about this video and the work Sue and her team are doing is that it is genuinely patient focused. They have achieved this by concentrating on the four key areas they have identified that they can improve and enhance the patient experience and outcomes – peer group support, sharing best practice, team working and patient support.

This award-winning team (they are recipients of the Quality in Care Awards in 2013) have showcased the positive aspects of caring for young people with cancer, and have ensured that patients live as well as they can with the disease and the diagnosis. There is a focus on enjoying life and there is a focus on working with the patient.

Sue invites you to come and meet with her and her team to see what they are doing, so I urge you to look at the video and get in touch with her if you want to find out more. It truly is an inspiring story and really shows off the difference that superb nursing can bring.

Look out for the other videos on Excellence in Oncology Nursing that we will be bringing to you through our association with Novartis Oncology. And enjoy watching this one.
