Macmillan’s session at the CNO Summit in November last year focused on the specialist nursing workforce.
There was a good discussion on the challenges of retaining specialist nurses in the current financial environment.
Discussion topics included:
- Lead nurses / managers need tools and evidence to make an economic case for specialist nurses
- Support Worker roles (being piloted by Macmillan) are welcomed and it would be helpful to develop resources to facilitate their establishment
- Specialist nurses can use education & influencing to meet the needs of an ageing population and bridging the gap between secondary and community care
