Travel insurance for people affected by cancer: updated information

  • Comment

Getting travel insurance when you have cancer can be difficult.

One of our most popular booklets gives general information about getting travel insurance which might be of use to your patients or people you know who have cancer.

It includes information on how travel insurance works, why it can be difficult to get travel insurance if you have cancer, buying insurance, and making a complaint. It also features a list of insurance companies that may be able to insure people affected by cancer. We print a new version every six months, at which point we add or remove companies based on feedback from our online community.

For this new booklet, we’ve tried to give more details about each insurance company - what they can and can’t cover, and whether they cover people who are terminally ill, for example. We know from feedback that some people with cancer have called companies we’ve listed in the past, only to have a bad experience or find that they won’t cover them. So we’ve updated the listings and have given as much detail as possible.

If the your patients and their families are interesting in sharing their experiences of getting travel insurance, or any other issue, please direct them to the travel insurance blog on the Macmillan Online Community.
