Wales CNS report published

  • Comment

The results of the first-ever census of specialist adult cancer nurses in Wales have been published and are now available to download.

Commissioned by Macmillan, the census had a 100% response rate, and unveiled revealed several key findings:

  • 79% of the specialist cancer workforce in Wales is classified as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS), and 21% of these are Macmillan post holders.
  • The vacancy rate for cancer CNSs appears to be below average for health and social care roles.
  • Nearly half of CNSs were reported as being aged 50 or over, with no post holders under 30 – which highlights the need for careful workforce succession planning.

You can download the complete report on our website, as well as the reports on the censuses in England and Northern Ireland.
